Available as a three- or four-year immersion program in the classical foundations of acupuncture, the master’s degree emphasizes scholarship and practice in the art, science, and the spirit of Chinese medicine, inspiring students to become competent and competent clinical practitioners.

“The Master of Acupuncture has been designed to provide the strongest foundation for acupuncture students, with extensive clinical application of key modalities such as moxibustion, Asian bodywork, qigong, etc.,” says Andy McIntyreMS, LAc, who is Dean of the NUNM College of Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM).

The MAc degree program offers a new gateway to the other CCM degrees offered by NUNM: the Masters in Acupuncture with Specialization in Chinese Herbal Medicine (MACCHM) builds on the MAc degree with coursework focused on advanced training in herbal formulations, while the Doctor of Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization (DAcCHM) further prepares students for careers as Chinese medicine scholar-practitioners. DAcCHM students cultivate the ability to access profound healing knowledge and ancient wisdom found in classical Chinese medical texts.

All CCM degree programs offered by NUNM are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) and allow graduates to apply for licensure and pass all AOM exams administered by the NCCAOM – used in most states as the basis for obtaining a license.

The College of Classical Chinese Medicine National University of Natural Medicine was founded in 1992 by a renowned professor and specialist in classical Chinese medicine Heiner Fruehauf, Ph.D., LAc. The CCM program is partly inspired by Liu Lihong’s textbook, Classical Chinese Medicine (思考中医), which has sold over 500,000 copies since its publication in 2001, making it the most successful Chinese medical book published; a second English edition was published in 2021 by Colombia University Hurry.
