Eugene Braunwald MD – Harvard Medical School
UCSD Founding Chairman of the Department of Medicine
Founding President, TIMI Study Group
Emeritus Professor of Medicine Hersey
Harvard Medical School
He has been dubbed the “Maestro of American Cardiology” and his work has transformed the face of cardiovascular medicine. Braunwald’s “Heart Disease” continues to be a best-selling textbook and is cited not only for its content, but also for Braunwald’s exceptional ability to convey. For several years he was concurrently director of medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and director of medicine at Beth Israel Hospital. His incredible impact on the world of medicine was especially felt here in San Diego, as he was the founding chair of the Department of Medicine at UCSD. Come hear him reflect on his career experiences at the first Colloquium of Physicians-Researchers of 2013 on January 14 at 5:30 p.m.
The student-run Physician Scientist Colloquium (PSC) serves to foster a sense of community for San Diego physician-scientists at all levels of training and practice, from medical students to professors emeritus. At each bi-monthly event, our chosen Career Opportunities Speaker does not deliver a scientific lecture, but rather reflects on his career and the evolving field of biomedical sciences. We have been honored to host Nobel laureates, chairs of the nation’s top medical departments, the CEO and founder of several multi-billion dollar medical research companies, professors who have made fundamental biomedical discoveries and many more which are recorded below. Once a year, a PSC Summer Series panel is held – knowledgeable faculty are invited to discuss a topic of interest and importance to physician-scientists. We welcome all interested undergraduates, medical students, MSTP students, residents, fellows, faculty. PSC is run by current MSTP students with a faculty mentor, and all events are hosted by UCSD’s Medical Scientist Education Program.
